Xiaodao Charting Tools (MCP): Setup and Usage
Xiaodao's charting tools are built for AI assistants. Your assistant can call Xiaodao directly to cast a Bazi chart, cast a Qimen chart, or convert a birth time to true solar time.
Server address: https://xiaodaox.com/mcp
No sign-in and no account needed.
Charts only, no readings. Your AI assistant does the interpreting.
How to connect
In Claude
- Open Customize → Connectors.
- Click + Add, then Add custom connector.
- Give it any name, for example "Xiaodao Charting". Enter
https://xiaodaox.com/mcpas the server URL and click Continue. - If you are asked how to authenticate, choose No sign in. Click Add.
- Start a new chat, click + at the lower left of the message box, choose Connectors, and turn "Xiaodao Charting" on.
- On Team and Enterprise plans, an Owner first adds it under Organization settings → Connectors; members then go to Customize → Connectors and click Connect.
- A free Claude account can have one custom connector.
- Once added to a Claude account, it works on the web, desktop and mobile apps.
- Menu and button names follow Claude's own interface at the time.
In other AI clients
In any client that supports remote MCP servers, enter the same address where that client asks for a remote MCP server. Where that is differs by client, so please follow that client's own instructions.
For example, in the desktop client Cherry Studio, add a remote MCP server, choose Streamable HTTP as the type, and enter https://xiaodaox.com/mcp. Xiaodao needs no sign-in and no API key, so leave authentication and request headers empty. After adding it, enable it, then select it in a chat or assistant. Cherry Studio's own documentation gives the path as Settings → MCP → MCP Servers → Add; the names of the type and fields follow its interface at the time. Xiaodao uses standard remote MCP (Streamable HTTP); clients that only support the older SSE transport cannot connect.
The tools
There are four, all read-only: they look things up and calculate, and change nothing.
| Tool | What it does | What you give it | What you get back |
|---|---|---|---|
search_birth_place | Searches Xiaodao's place catalogue and returns birth place IDs. The Bazi and true solar time tools need one of these IDs | query: a place name (required, up to 120 characters)language: zh-CN or en, default en | Up to 80 candidates: ID, Chinese and English names, country, first-level administrative area |
bazi_chart | Casts a full Bazi chart | Required: placeId, date, time (HH:MM), sex (MALE or FEMALE)Optional: calendar (SOLAR, the default, or LUNAR, which also needs isLeapMonth), daylightSaving, earlyLateZi, boundaryChoices, focusDate, detailYears, allDaysOfMonth, language | The four pillars with details for each (ten god of the stem, hidden stems, secondary stars, twelve life stages, own-seat stage, void branches, Na Yin, Shen Sha), lunar date, true solar time, combinations, clashes, punishments, harms and breaks in the natal chart, the Tai Yuan, Ming Gong and Shen Gong palaces, the month command with its five element states, luck start and direction, all twelve ten-year luck cycles (stems and branches, start and end years, details, relations to the natal chart, yearly pillars), the years before luck begins, and the annual, monthly, daily and hourly pillars for the focus date |
qimen_chart | Casts an hour-based Qimen chart (chai bu method, rotating plate). This is the only method Xiaodao offers | Required: date, time (HH:MM), the local clock time at which the chart is castOptional: placeId (where you are or where the event happens; if omitted, Xiaodao's reference place is used and named in the result), daylightSaving, birthYearPillar (the Year Pillar of the person's birth year, such as 庚午, used to look at the birth-year position), language | The four pillars, solar term, yin or yang dun and ju number, xun head, duty star, duty gate, hidden-chant and reverse-chant patterns, the five-not-meeting hour, void branches, horse stars, and for each of the nine palaces the star, gate, deity, heaven and earth plate stems, lodged stems, hidden stem and marks such as gate constraint, stem punishment and entering the tomb; with a birth-year pillar, the palace where the birth-year stem falls |
true_solar_time | Converts the historical local clock time at a birth place to true solar time | Required: placeId, date, timeOptional: calendar, isLeapMonth, daylightSaving, earlyLateZi, boundaryChoices, language | Wall-clock time, historical time zone and offset, whether daylight saving was in effect, true solar time to the minute, and the Zi-hour convention. No pillars or lunar date |
Good to know
- Enter the local wall-clock time at the birth place. Time zone and daylight saving follow that place's historical rules for that date, not today's.
- Dates from 1801 to 2099 are supported, in the Gregorian and the lunar calendar alike; anything outside that range returns "Invalid input".
- True solar time = wall-clock time minus daylight saving, plus longitude correction (4 minutes per degree), plus the equation of time.
- By default the day changes at 23:00, the same as on the Xiaodao website. For Bazi, pass
earlyLateZi: trueto change the day at midnight. Qimen always changes the day at 23:00 and cannot be changed. - If something is missing, the tools ask instead of guessing: when a clock time occurs twice (autumn fall-back), they ask whether daylight saving was in effect; a lunar date needs to say whether the month is a leap month; when the time is close to an hour, day or solar-term boundary, they ask whether to use this time (
SAME) or the other side of the boundary (OTHER). A clock time skipped in spring does not exist and is not calculated. bazi_chartreturns the whole life skeleton plus the day it is currently at the birth place. For another day, passfocusDate; for year-by-year detail for certain years, passdetailYears(up to ten years at a time); for every day of the focused month, passallDaysOfMonth.- Chart text is in Chinese, using the standard way stems, branches, ten gods and symbolic stars are written; the same content is also returned as structured data. With
languageset toen, an English note on conventions and a field glossary are added. - Every result opens with a short "how this chart was calculated" note, and closes with a few lines for the AI: this is a chart calculation, not a reading; please interpret it with your own knowledge and say what it is based on; no predictions of death or lifespan, no medical diagnoses, no specific investment, lending or gambling advice, and so on.
- Each result includes a link back to Xiaodao that carries only a source marker, never your birth information.
Example prompts
The birth details below are made up.
- "Cast a Bazi chart for a man born on 12 May 1990 at 8:30 in the morning in Chengdu." Your assistant looks up the place first, then casts the chart and walks you through it.
- "Cast a Qimen chart with Xiaodao for right now, in Shanghai."
- "What is the true solar time for someone born on 1 July 1985 at 2:30 a.m. in New York?"
- "For that Bazi chart, show me the daily pillar for 15 March 2027."
How your data is handled
This summarizes Paragraph 9 of Section 2 of the Xiaodao Privacy Policy; the policy has the full text.
- No sign-in is needed. Xiaodao does not identify you, does not collect your name or any other free-text content, and does not link the information to any account.
- Your AI assistant sends Xiaodao what is needed to cast the chart: for Bazi, the place of birth, date and time of birth, calendar, gender and chart options; for Qimen, the local clock time at which the chart is cast, and optionally where you are or where the event happens and the Year Pillar of the person's birth year; if the clock time occurs twice, you are also asked whether daylight saving was in effect. Xiaodao uses it only to cast that one chart and returns the full chart information to your assistant.
- That chart is cast by a program alone; no compute provider of the Xiaodao reasoning engine is called. The information and the chart are not saved in a database, not written to disk and not written to application logs. Once each request has been handled, the result is cleared and nothing is kept.
- As on the rest of the site, the server access log records the IP address (truncated), the path requested, status code, response time and browser identifier. It does not record the content of requests, so the information you send is not in it.
- Xiaodao sorts the assistant into a few categories according to the name it reports about itself, and keeps that category with the protocol version in memory for 24 hours. It does not contain the information you send, and the reported name is not kept.
- How your assistant stores and uses your conversation with it is governed by the privacy policy of its provider, not by Xiaodao's.
- Requests are processed by servers in Singapore.

Limits and errors
- The four tools above are all there is. Xiaodao's Bazi reports, Q&A, Daily Fortune and other website features are not part of this interface.
- Everyone shares one pool of calls. When many people are using it, you get "Too many people are using this right now. Please try again later". Just try again in a little while.
- A client that sends requests directly from a web page in the browser is currently accepted only from claude.ai and chatgpt.com. If another client of that kind cannot connect, write to support@xiaodaox.com. Desktop and command-line clients, which send no browser origin, are not affected.
- When something goes wrong, the result says why:
- "Invalid input. Check the birth place ID, date, time and choices.": use a place ID returned by
search_birth_place, write the date as YYYY-MM-DD and the time as HH:MM, and sex asMALEorFEMALE. - "
focusDateordetailYearsis outside the pre-luck and twelve-cycle timeline.": pick a date or years within this chart's luck cycles. - "Time conversion or chart calculation is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.": try again in a little while.
- "More information needed ...": not an error, just a missing detail; add it and call again.
- "Invalid input. Check the birth place ID, date, time and choices.": use a place ID returned by
